Funding and Delivering Sustainable Communities

7th - 9th June 2010 - Brussels - Belgium, Thon HotelBrusselsCity Centre

The European Union - Driver of Sustainable Communities

BEX brings together senior executives from across the value chain tasked with funding, delivering and operating major projects. This multi-disciplinary event is now in it's sixth year and brings together leaders in property and construction from both the public and private sector to exchange expertise and to do business together. The focus of this year’s programme is on the funding and delivery of sustainable communities with particular emphasis on EU policy as the driving force behind investment in sustainability.

Looking forward all new buildings will have to be very low energy and for existing buildings, energy efficiency renovation requirements will be extended to the entire building stock, not just buildings over 1000 m2  as is the case today.

Energy performance certificates will be harmonised for commercial property and the performance indicator in certificates will appear in all advertising and sales material. There will be minimum levels of energy from renewable sources in new or refurbished buildings, energy saving targets for buildings, and a network of smart cities to pioneer new technologies.

Similar rules are planned for the water and bio-waste performance of buildings. There will be an EU Ecolabel for buildings, green standards in public and private procurement for buildings and the greening of construction products and energy using products in buildings. EU funding for sustainable building will be increased. It all means a sea change to planning, construction and investment culture for half a billion people, a massive challenge and opportunity for the entire building chain.

At BEX , EU policy makers and property industry leaders will help delegates to understand these drivers and adapt their organisations  to ride the resulting wave of opportunity

BEX is an action oriented forum which places business meetings and not power–point presentations at its heart. A programme of pre-selected mutually agreed one to one meetings are combined with an outstanding conference and numerous other networking opportunities.
